About us

The Sámi Museum, Sámiid Vuorká-Dávvirat (SVD) in Karasjok represents Sámi cultural history. The museum consists of a main building with exhibitions and storage rooms as well as an Open-air Museum. The first buildings were built on the museum site in 1950s. A Sámi artist and designer Iver Jåks from Karasjok was asked to draw up a plan and prepare the artistic side of the building. The Sámi Museum in Karasjok was established in 1972 as the first Sámi museum in Norway. In 2022 the Museum will celebrate its 50-year anniversary. Today it is the largest Sámi museum in Norway.
