ABOUT OUR MUSEUM<\/h2>\n

S\u00e1miid Vuork\u00e1-D\u00e1vvirat – The S\u00e1mi Museum were established in 1972 as the first S\u00e1mi museum and the first S\u00e1mi cultural institution in Norway.<\/span> The purpose of the establishment was to promote S\u00e1mi culture and strengthen the status of the S\u00e1mi as indigenous people.<\/span> The museum building was officially opened on April 16, 1972. The museum building was decorated by the renown S\u00e1mi artist, Iver J\u00e5ks.<\/span> The museum is currently the largest S\u00e1mi museum in Norway.<\/span><\/p>\n

The S\u00e1mi Museum in Karasjok manages over 5,000 objects. This is the largest mseum collection representing S\u00e1mi cultural history in Nor\u0161ay. <\/span>This unique collection includes objects representing household, means of livelohood<\/span>, traditional S\u00e1mi clothing, religion, duodji (arts and crafts) and arts from all over the S\u00e1mi area across national borders.<\/span><\/p>\n

The exhibitions in the main building<\/span><\/h2>\n

– S\u00e1mi traditional clothing customs from different areas and time periods<\/span>
\n– Tools and e\u00e1uipment used in various traditional means of livelihood
\n– Duodji<\/em> – S\u00e1mi handicrafts<\/span>
\n– Elements of S\u00e1mi religion<\/span>
\n– Sami contemporary arts<\/span><\/p>\n

Outdoor museum<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n
The outdoor museum has S\u00e1mi buildings with a <\/span>unique farm from J\u00e1vrebannj\u00e1rga and an old mountain lodge from Beaivv\u00e1\u0161gieddi from the 19th century.<\/span> Pitfalls in the outdoor museum represent the thousands-year-old method of hunting of wild reindeer.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

S\u00e1miid Vuork\u00e1-D\u00e1vvirat \u2013 De Samiske Samlinger i Karasjok er et samisk kulturhistorisk museum som best\u00e5r av en hovedbygning med utstillinger og magasiner samt friluftsmuseum. Arbeidet med etableringen av museet begynte allerede i 1939.
