History<\/h4>\n

This stable is originally from \u010coallev\u00e1rnj\u00e1rga, Midts\u00e6ter in Norwegian.<\/p>\n

The stable was built at the end of the 19th century or the beginning of the 20th century. During 1976\u20131977 it was moved from \u010coallev\u00e1rnj\u00e1rga to Karasjok and became part of the Open-air Museum.<\/p>\n

The owner of the stable was Aslak Andersen Guttorm (1903\u20131977) from \u010coallev\u00e1rnj\u00e1rga. His son Anders Aslaksen Guttorm bought the stable from his father. They were both farmers in \u010coallev\u00e1rnj\u00e1rga. The father, Aslak Andersen Guttorm, moved there before World War II. He was born and raised in Holmen, Valjok, about 50 km north of Karasjok along the river Tana.<\/p>\n

The stable was restored in 2000\u20132001 by craftsman Jon Ole Andersen and museum technician Thorolf Bj\u00f8rnback.<\/p>\n

The stable<\/h4>\n

The stable is a building in which horses\u00a0were kept. Usually there was room for two horses. The space is divided into a small hall and separate stalls for individual animals. Equipment belonging to horses was hung on the inner walls. Inside the stable there was also a drinking trough and hay. During the winter, horses would be covered with a thick blanket to keep them warm.<\/p>\n

The stable has a door at each end, one for entry and a smaller one near the stalls. The small one was meant for horse muck.\u00a0The stable is about 40 meters from the J\u00e1vrebainj\u00e1rga cottage.<\/p>\n

According to stories, the first thing people arriving by horse in Karasjok would ask was, \u201cIs there a room for a horse?\u201d. People always gave priority to the needs of their horses before asking for a room to stay overnight for themselves.<\/p>\n
