The museum consists of a main building with exhibitions and storage rooms as well as an Open-air Museum. The first buildings were\u00a0built on the museum site in 1950s.\u00a0A S\u00e1mi artist and designer Iver J\u00e5ks from Karasjok was\u00a0asked to draw up a plan and prepare the artistic side of the building.\u00a0The S\u00e1mi Museum in Karasjok was established in 1972 as the first S\u00e1mi museum in Norway. In 2022 the Museum will celebrate its 50-year anniversary.
